However, a bakebook is an entirely different story. Butter is something I can get excited about. I just read about this new collection of reinvented American dessert recipes entitled Baked Explorations on Design*Sponge, and now I have cookbook envy.

Guess which I like better, Top Chef or Top Chef: Just Desserts
For the most part, cookbooks don't hold any attraction for me. I am not a very good cook. I learned the joyous ease and versatility of a microwave at my mother's knee, and have happily nuked my way into adult life. Because of this, cookbooks serve merely to remind me of my chefly shortcomings.

Check out Design*Sponge's description of the Monkey Bread, Whoopie Pies, Pumpkin Cheddar Muffins, Mississippi Mud Cake, and the unusual Tomato Soup Cupcakes with Mascarpone Frosting. *Sigh*

Yummmm. I am the same way with cookbooks. I have a goal to be a good cook, but when it comes down to cooking, I get lazy and want my food in less than ten minutes (thank goodness for microwaves!). I do like to bake, too, and definitely have a sweet tooth. Let me know if you make any of these recipes and how they turn out.-Julia
ReplyDeleteI like to cook the slow, old-fashioned way; I must not have been a very good student when Mom was giving the microwave cooking lesson!
ReplyDeleteYou bring the dessert. I'll handle the entree. :)
And Top Chef is way superior to Top Chef: Just Desserts. TCJD is full of whiny drama queens. TC was too, but they were way more focused on actually making good food.
